You can use a tint in the filler to either accentuate or minimize the visibility of the grain, depending on what you want. Be aware that dust can be an issue with rub on oil-like finish materials.

I have successfully made my own similar oil/varnish blend that works very well and have used it on a number of furniture projects as well as my old ash bodied P bass.
